Towards patient-specific carbohydrate counting accuracy: An in silico study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Type 1 diabetes mellitus patients on intensive insulin therapy use advanced carbohydrate counting to proper dose prandial insulin. Therefore, the patient’s ability accurately estimate meal’s content is paramount. However, despite its significance, several studies show that estimates far from ideal and identify need for continuous education counting. In this context, authors have proposed in previous works an analytic method determine maximum error regarding each insulin-to-carb ratio sensitivity factor. This can be of great significance design patient-specific educational programs define learning outcomes according specific characteristics patient. work presents a methodology conditions assess previously method, using FDA-approved University Virginia(UVA)/Padova Diabetes Simulator.

Accuracy of Carbohydrate Counting in Adults
In Brief This study investigates carbohydrate counting accuracy in patients using insulin through a multiple daily injection regimen or continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion. The average accuracy test score for all patients was 59%. The carbohydrate test in this study can be used to emphasize the importance of carbohydrate counting to patients and to provide ongoing education.
متن کاملDeath to Carbohydrate Counting?
I nsulin therapy is an effective strategy for achieving glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. Although often neglected, it is important to use an appropriate diet strategy to complement the insulin. Furthermore, a basic tenet of such therapy is that insulin dosage and administration should be appropriate to balance diet and physical activity in order to maintain normoglycemia. In t...

Towards Patient Specific Models of Cardiac Mechanics: A Sensitivity Study
In the design of patient specific mathematical models of cardiac mechanics, the lack of patient specific input data leads to default settings of various model parameters. To estimate the potential errors thus introduced, we evaluated changes in predicted mechanics in a model of the left ventricle (LV) induced by changes in geometry, fiber orientation, heterogeneity of passive material behavior ...
متن کاملTowards the patient-specific design of flow diverters made from helix-like wires: an optimization study
BACKGROUND Flow diverter (FD) intervention is an emerging endovascular technique for treating intracranial aneurysms. High flow-diversion efficiency is desired to accelerate thrombotic occlusion inside the aneurysm; however, the risk of post-stenting stenosis in the parent artery is posed when flow-diversion efficiency is pursued by simply decreasing device porosity. For improving the prognosis...
